My Olympic Art Work

This is my olympic poster that I did with my classroom.  The first thing I had to do was draw up a tessellation.  (tessellation has no gapes and keeps on repeating).  The tessellation is right behind me with my funny picture that I chose of me doing gymnastics.  Then we did our vocabulary words on the side of the border, like silver, bronze, gold and the other things that you can see.  Also the three values are excellence, friendship and respect.  These values are important because it’s helpful in the olympics and it’s to keep people safe.  The last thing we did was our speech bubbles and thought bubbles.  The speech bubbles have similes in them, and the thought bubbles have metaphors in them.  A smile is a sentence using like or as, but metaphors you can't use like or as. The border is my favourite bit because it tells people what it about and shares information.

Hong Kong Stem Challenge

                            

Materials that we used: 6 x long sticks 1 x  wooden square 2 x pipe cleaners 2 x straws 1 x 1m ruler 11 x plastic cubes 1 x bunch of popsicle sticks 4 x wooden small flat pieces

Challenge #1 - Build a structure with a cube as the base:

This challenge I thought that it was difficult because we only got to use one single cube to hold everything on top! We were all shaky, but we made it.

Challenge  #2 -  Build a structure as high as you can on a base.

This challenge I found was easy because we didn’t need to use one block as the base. The only worries that we had was that it kept on breaking, then we made it, but because we had a time limit the last 5 seconds we had, it got knocked over by Musharraf on accident.

Challenge #3 -  Build a structure with something that balances off the side of it:

Challenge 3  was really hard because we had to make something stick out on the side so we tried to make a mini machine gun but the last five seconds that we had, it broke down because we were all shaky.

Moment In Time Week 7

Today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.  

Before we began our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.

Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

Boy Overboard!

“AGHHHH!” said Jack as his uncle suddenly drove straight into a wave and it went crashing down on them.  The pressure was so powerful that it knocked Jack straight off the boat and into the freezing cold water.  He was starting to drown, but luckily he knew how to swim.  He got a breath of air just in time, he could of died.   

Jack saw some sharks coming towards him like lightning.  He swam to the boat as fast as he could, his uncle never noticed that he got tipped off the boat.  “Uncle, help me please!” Jack screamed, but his uncle could not hear his screams over the crashing waves.  He went to the side of the boat and banged it as hard as he could, but his uncle could still not hear him.  Jack thought he was really going to die, and now the sharks were closer than he ever wanted.   

The sharks circled around him, which Jack did not like it, he was terrified.  One of the sharks tried to strike but Jack had dodged it.  The other sharks attacked but they were not fast enough to eat him.  Jack was to tired to dodge the attacks now, they were really going to eat him now.  But at the last second there was a school of tuna that distracted the blood thirsty sharks.  The sharks went to the school of fish then Jack said  “now I have more time to get my uncle’s attention?”, for a school of tuna is way better than a skinny little boy.

Ben:

I think I did well sharing my ideas, and did well on doing changes, and making the sentence better.

Turua:  

I think I did well on typing the moment in time and sharing my ideas to my group.

Musharraf:

I think I did well of sharing my ideas with my two buddies and making good changes.

Moment in time

There were 4 kids there names were Ben, Matatia, Musharraf and Turua.  They were walking to school but Ben said” let’s go to the park, I don't want to go school our teacher is boring.  Fine ben just be quiet said Matatia and ben shushed up.  Musharraf said” I bought my rugby ball and Matatia said i bought my soccer ball, but we said” we’ll play tackle rugby instead.

When we got there Turua said” I feel like we're being followed.  Ben said” there our teacher Miss Hills (she's on a break) they all hided behind a bush, but then when Miss Hills was on her joge she saw Matatia’s jacket popping out, and saw us and said” WHAT ARE YOU BOYS DOING HERE!

Then Miss Hills said i am as fast as a cheetah, and she made the kids run the whole playground until they were out of breath then she called the principal and told him that the kids that were SICK was at the park down the road.

Matariki Reflection

Matariki is a time for reflection .  Yesterday with Whaea Toni we                        took the time to reflect on our year and set                       our new goal.  Here is the goal i set:  me

       

         We made a Matariki star.  We used our algebraic thinking.  We     had a pattern to follow:

                                               

           1, 2 and down 

         1 up.

          We repeated this pattern until we got a star.

Matariki Celebration

Manu Tukutuku

(Kite making)

The Matariki celebration is for the Maori new year and we are also doing it for two lovely people who teach us Kapa Haka and Te reo. I didn't go to the Matariki celebration it was at school but i wish I had been there.  The reason why we were making Manu Tukutuku was for the Matariki celebration.  

This whole week me and my friend Matatia were  manu tukutuku (kite making).  On Monday we went out of school and we did a karakia before we cut raupō and toetoe.  The reason why we had to say a karakia because to show tikanga and  respect to the plants that are growing.  When we all got our ruapō we went back to our classroom and we got started to make our manu tukutuku everybody used the same materials so we used Raupo, wool and harakeke

The person on the left of me is Matatia he is the one who helped me weave the wool,  draw the picture and help me with the hot glue.

The easiest bit for me was breaking strips off the flax. all you have to do is get thumb your and stick it through the flax.  The hardest bit was measuring the toe toe because when our teacher Miss Hills

she explained that we were 1 mm off but that won't make a big difference.  

When me and Matatia were done with our kite we were both proud and we wouldn't have done it without Eraia, Mya and Miss Hills.  Miss Hills helped us with our maths and our question.  Mya and Eraia helped us with our talking about our questions.
